MESA, AZ — A Mesa woman chased a burglar with a hot dog roasting skewer to get him out of her garage.
Police say she found Gabriel David Wharton, 44, in her garage trying to steal her car on September 29.
Wharton was allegedly caught in the act and fled the scene on a bicycle.
The victim chased him and tried to stop him by placing a hot dog roasting skewer in the spokes of his bicycle tires.
She was unsuccessful, and Wharton escaped.
Police located him about a mile away and arrested him.
Upon his arrest, he allegedly admitted to being in the garage looking for a firearm, but then tried to steal the woman's car.
Police say other items belonging to the victim were found in Wharton's pockets.
He has been charged with burglary.
