MESA, AZ — A Mesa man captured a burglar at gunpoint at his deceased father's home, according to court paperwork.
Mesa police report that on December 11 they responded to a home near Alma School Road and University Drive.
They say the homeowner was returning to his deceased father’s home to retrieve some items.
Once inside he noticed a back bedroom door was closed and locked, which was not the way it was left.
The armed son kicked in the door and saw a man barricaded and hiding in the dark. He ordered the suspect, 37-year-old Joshua Alexander Neal, to get on the ground and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
Police say Neal was lying on top of a prybar and had a satchel containing several items stolen from the home, including checkbooks and collectible coins.
Neal allegedly admitted to being a drug addict and was using the prybar as protection.
Police say they found pry marks on an outside door.
Neal has been charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.
