Armed victims chased down and captured a man police say is responsible for multiple carjackings in west Phoenix.

Phoenix Police report that on Halloween afternoon, a man, later identified as 18-year-old Christopher Vela, approached two men who were eating on the front porch of their home near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Vela, armed with a sawed-off shotgun allegedly demanded the keys to their truck and their cell phones. The victims followed the truck in a separate car, catching up to him near Indian School Road.

They pulled Vela from the driver's seat and held him at gunpoint until the police arrived. Police say the sawed-off shotgun was found in the truck.

Further investigation revealed that police received similar calls of two other carjackings the day before, involving a man with a shotgun, who matched Vela's description.

Vela reportedly admitted to one of the carjackings, saying he was high on methamphetamines.

Vela was arrested for multiple counts of aggravated assault and armed robbery.
