A Valley store clerk used a machete to scare off a knife-wielding robber last week.
Buckeye police report that on August 23, a man later identified as 24-year old Anthony Lauro, entered a gas station store handing a demand note to the clerk.
As the clerk read the note, Lauro reportedly pulled out a knife. The victim reached behind him, grabbed a machete, held it over his head and yelled at Lauro to leave.
Police say the victim recognized Lauro as they went to elementary school together.
Later that day, the victim alerted police that Lauro walked by the store.
Police located and arrested him nearby.
Lauro, who police say has 12 prior arrests, has been charged with attempted armed robbery.
