A Utah family recently discovered their daughter was having an online sexual relationship with a man from Gilbert.
Gilbert police report that on May 3 they arrested 44-year-old Shane Anthony Volk at his home near Germann and Higley roads.
Police say they were contacted late last year by authorities from Utah saying a family there discovered disturbing conversations on their family computer.
The conversations were between their 14-year-old daughter and a man later identified as Volk. They found sexually explicit conversations and seven videos displaying sexual acts each of them was doing while in communication with each other.
The victim said"she was in an online only sexual relationship." Gilbert police were able to trace the origin of the communications to Volk's home in Gilbert. Police say in other discussions they found Volk to be in another sexual relationship with a 12-year-old boy from Indiana. They say they also found dozens of other sexually explicit images of other juvenile victims, including toddlers.
In his post-arrest interview, Volk allegedly admitted to "sexually explicit exchanges with additional juveniles via Instagram."
He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor.
