GILBERT, AZ — A suspected thief rang the doorbell of a home after losing his stolen items in their backyard.

Gilbert police report that around 1 a.m. on Monday, a man later identified as 18-year-old Manuel Henry Trujillo, rang the doorbell of a home near Gilbert and Baseline roads.

The resident said she saw Trujillo walking alongside her home before he rang the doorbell.

When police arrived and questioned him, he reportedly told them that he dropped a backpack over the wall and wanted to retrieve it.

Police found the backpack and when they looked inside they allegedly found multiple laptop computers, belonging to a nearby school.

Police say earlier that morning they received an alarm activation at the Eduprize School about one mile from where Trujillo was arrested.

He has been charged with burglary and criminal trespassing.
