Glendale apartment residents helped a 5-year-old child struggling in the pool while his mom was passed out poolside.

Marianne Elizabeth Loyd, 36, was charged last week with child abuse after she allegedly was passed out from drug use, while her son was swimming in an apartment complex pool.

Glendale police were called to the complex near 75th Avenue and Bell Road on May 26. Residents reportedly told officers that they helped the 5-year-old child out of the pool, as he was struggling to swim. The residents allegedly told police that this was not the first this has happened.

Police report that the child was unharmed.

Police say Loyd was falling asleep during her interview with police at the scene.

Police say the Department of Child Safety provided them with, "reports that indicate possible drug use by mom and dad."

Her first court appearance is scheduled for September 22.
