MESA, AZ — A man has been arrested after reportedly kicking a 6-week-old kitten multiple times at a Mesa car wash.
Mesa police report Tuesday morning they were contacted regarding an abused kitten.
Staff members at a car wash near Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue found an injured kitten and took it to a veterinarian, who allegedly told police that kitten had head trauma, bleeding in the eye, and "neurologic tremors."
Surveillance video from the night before allegedly shows 23-year-old Nicholas Grayson Calfy taking off his shirt and chasing the kitten around the parking lot. He is reportedly seen cornering the kitten and covering it with his shirt.
Police say Calfy then kicked the animal several times, moving it into position between each kick. The kitten is later seen "laying on the ground trembling" with Calfy nearby smoking a cigarette, according to court records.
Calfy was located and arrested Tuesday morning and allegedly admitted it was him in the video. He reportedly told police that he was drunk but did not remember abusing the kitten.
Police say they found meth in his backpack.
Calfy was arrested for drug possession and animal cruelty.
