A Phoenix man was taken into custody after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run DUI collision with his son inside the car.

Phoenix police report that on Sunday afternoon there was a vehicle collision near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road, where a car struck the curb and was no longer drivable.

Witnesses say they followed 31-year-old Raymond Bautista who ran from the vehicle, with his 8-year-old son.

He was caught by police a few blocks away. Bautista reportedly admitted to police that he drank five tall cans of beer earlier that day.

Police talked with the young boy, who allegedly told them that his father told him to lie to the police.

The boy reportedly told police that, "He knows people who tell lies get in trouble, and he didn’t want to get in trouble."

He told police that his father was driving when he hit the curb, causing the airbag to deploy. He also said he struck his chest on the dashboard.

Police say the boy had "several lacerations across his body."

Bautista was arrested for aggravated DUI on a suspended license and aggravated DUI with a child.
