PHOENIX — A man and woman have been arrested in North Phoenix while in possession of an estimated 15 kilograms of cocaine.
Court records show that on June 6 about 7:15 p.m., Mesa police detectives were conducting surveillance at a business parking lot near 43rd and Peoria avenues in North Phoenix.
There they say a brown Hyundai driven by Veronica Rodriguez, 43, parked next to a silver Volvo and Rodriguez opened the trunk.
The driver of the Volvo, Carlos Duarte Valle, 42, allegedly took a cardboard box from his vehicle and placed it in the Hyundai.
Officers moved in and detained the two as a drug detection K-9 officer sniffed the two vehicles. The dogs alerted them to drug residue in both cars.
Police say inside the box they found 15 packages wrapped in plastic containing a "white powdery substance," later determined to be cocaine.
Valle reportedly told police that, "he did not know what was in the box, but he did know it wasn't anything good."
Valle and Rodriguez have been charged with conspiracy and transporting narcotic drugs.
