A man reportedly stole $1,400 worth of fish hooks during five thefts of a Mesa sporting goods store.

Mesa police report that from June 19 until July 2, the Sportsman's Warehouse near Greenfield and Baseline roads had over $1,400 in fishing hooks stolen.

Police say that on five occasions, 50-year-old Salvatore Anastasi went into the store and shoplifted fishing hooks. He would later employ people to return the hooks for gift cards.

Police say they have seen store surveillance video reportedly showing Anastasi taking and concealing the hooks.

On July 2, he allegedly stole about $300 worth of hooks, but was stopped by employees before leaving the store.

Upon his arrest, Anastasi allegedly admitted to taking the hooks and paying people to return them.

He's been charged with five counts of retail theft.
