MESA, AZ — A Mesa woman has been charged after attacking her boyfriend with a hammer on Christmas morning.

Mesa police report that on Christmas morning a neighbor called them after hearing a disturbance at a home near Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue.

Police found 30-year-old Jessica Julianna Iturbe holding a hammer in her hand.

Police say Iturbe and her boyfriend were arguing, when she threw the Christmas tree into the kitchen, knocking over several items.

Her boyfriend ran away and locked himself in a bathroom.

Iturbe allegedly then unlocked the door and attacked him with a hammer, striking him twice in the head.

Police say the victim suffered from a fractured skull.

Iturbe has been charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.
