MESA, AZ — A dispute over music led to the murder of a Mesa man on Friday night, according to court paperwork.
Mesa Police report that on Friday night they responded to an apartment near Ellsworth and Baseline roads, after a man called saying, "He shot his roommate and left him in the bathroom."
Police say 41-year-old Sheldon Ray Sturgill was drinking shots and beer while arguing over the type of music they were listening to.
The dispute got physical when the victim allegedly punched Sturgill in the face, cutting him. Sturgill then allegedly retreated to his bedroom where he grabbed a handgun and fired multiple times.
Police say the victim was struck in the back, arm chest and abdomen. The victim was pronounced dead by the Mesa Fire department.
Investigators say they round 14 fired casings near the victim.
After getting stitches for the cut to his face, Sturgill was arrested.
He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond for second-degree murder.
