An off-duty Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy was in the right place at the right time when he witnessed a bank robbery going down.
Phoenix police say on Monday morning, a man later identified as 45-year-old Jason Allen Ehret, entered a bank near 48th Street and Warner Road in Ahwatukee.
Witnesses say Ehret was wearing a wig, hat, sunglasses, and an oversized suit coat when he went inside. Police say he gave a note to the teller demanding money. The teller handed over nearly $7,000 to Ehret who ran from the bank.
When Ehret took off, an off-duty MCSO deputy, who was in the bank at the time, chased after him on foot.
Police say Ehret discarded the money in it after a dye pack deployed. The deputy tackled and detained Ehret, who reportedly had a handgun in his waistband.
He is being held on a $100,000 bond on a charge of armed robbery.
