PEORIA, AZ — A Peoria woman attacked her adult son with an ax during an argument over selling crystal items.

Peoria police report that on February 27, they responded to a home near 83rd and Peoria avenues for a domestic violence call.

Police learned that an adult man was in his room when his mother, 70-year-old May Thi Horton, swung an ax at him. The ax struck the ground, but Horton tried again, this time hitting the wall.

Her son jumped on top of the ax so that she couldn't get it. Horton then grabbed a bat from the corner of the room and tried to swing it at her son but was stopped by her son's father.

Police say Horton's ex-husband was allowing them to stay at his home for a time.

He reportedly heard them arguing over some crystal items that she had bought for her son to sell. He allegedly had a transaction fall through, and Horton accused him of stealing from her.

Police say they found the ax and bat in the room and an ax mark on the floor in front of the bed.

Horton has been charged with aggravated assault.
