A cell phone store customer called police after witnessing an armed robbery then chased down one of the suspects.
Court records show that on December 4, a customer of a Metro PCS store contacted police after seeing two armed men rob the store. As police arrived the suspects fled, and the witness chased down and captured one of the two suspects.
Police report that they received a call that a cell phone store near 35th and Southern avenues was being robbed by two men with guns. Police say one of the two suspects, later identified as 19-year-old Oscar Ramirez, spray painted the front door, and window after one of the employees was forced to lock the door.
Ramirez and 19-year-old Cesar Aaron Maytorena reportedly stole about $600 from the store. As police arrived, witnesses say the two suspects ran out of the back door of the store. The witness who contacted police ran after Maytorena tackling him and recovered a bag containing the money from the robbery.
Police say they recovered two black and chrome BB style handguns. Police captured Ramirez who told them his wallet was in a car. Police found the car still running and inside they allegedly saw pellet guns, duct tape, and zip ties.
Maytorena and Ramirez were positively identified as the suspects by the victims, and store surveillance video.
They have been charged with kidnapping and armed robbery.
