PHOENIX — Phoenix police have arrested two people for shooting and killing a man Monday evening.

On April 15, officers responded to a parking lot near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road for a report of a shooting. They arrived to find a man, later identified as 39-year-old Thomas Polimeni, critically injured.

He was taken to an area hospital where he later died, according to police.

Police say one of the shooting suspects, 35-year-old Adrian Escobedo, had been living in his car near his ex-girlfriend's home.

He allegedly had been threatening her and her children for several weeks.

When the woman left her home with Polimeni, she and Polimeni were confronted by Escobedo, who was armed with a sawed-off shotgun.

Witnesses say Polimeni had a gun in his waistband, “but had his hands up as Adrian (Escobedo) was pointing his shotgun at Thomas (Polimeni).”

Escobedo fired one shot hitting Polimeni in the chest.

A second suspect, 32-year-old Tina Gutierrez, pointed an airsoft gun at the female victim who fled and called the police.

Escobedo and Gutierrez fled to a home near 39th and Southern avenues, police say.

Investigators were able to track the suspects and arrested them around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Both have been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, among other charges.
