SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Police used 'stop sticks' to end the pursuit of a stolen golf cart in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale police report that around 1 a.m. on May 5, a man was carjacked as he was giving an intoxicated friend a ride home in his golf cart.

His friend, 46-year-old Patrick McGee Gibbons, got into a shoving match with the golf cart owner, then refused to allow him back into the cart. Gibbons then fled in the cart.

Police located the stolen golf cart going north on Scottsdale Road, weaving across multiple lanes and running red lights. Gibbons refused to stop for police and continued driving to Shea Boulevard, about four miles away.

Police resorted to using 'stop sticks' to puncture the tires of the golf cart, causing it to stop. Gibbons continued to ignore officers until a K-9 officer detained him.

Gibbons was taken to the hospital for dog bites and other injuries.

He has been charged with vehicle theft, unlawful flight, and resisting arrest.
