PHOENIX — A road rage suspect allegedly fired four shots at a car carrying children, then hid the weapon at a Phoenix community college.

Phoenix police report that on March 25, Jose Ruiz, age 34, was the passenger in a car driven by his mother near 48th Street and Guadalupe Road.

Police say the Ruiz' car was side by side with the victim’s car when he rolled down his window and fired a handgun.

The victim’s vehicle, which had two children under 15-years-old in the car, was struck and got a flat tire as a result.

The victim was still able to follow Ruiz' car to South Mountain Community College, where he saw Ruiz enter the school with two gray bags.

The victim pointed out Ruiz to campus police who detained him. Ruiz was still in possession of one of the gray bags, according to police. Campus police reviewed surveillance video and tracked the second bag to a locker in the men's locker room.

Police say a 9mm handgun was found in the bag with four bullets missing from the magazine. Police say four shell casings that matched the rounds in the recovered gun were located at the shooting scene.

Ruiz is being held on a $200,000 bond on multiple charges including aggravated assault and endangerment.
