A man's stepsons detained a suspect after he jammed a metal pole into the victim's eye.
Phoenix police report that on September 24, a man was pulling into his apartment, near 12th Avenue and Pima Street, when a man, later identified as 34-year-old Michael Gilmore, began hitting his SUV with a metal pole.
Police say the victim looked out his window to see what Gilmore was doing when Gilmore allegedly jabbed the victim in the eye with a 6-foot metal pole.
As Gilmore started to walk away, the victim's stepsons jumped out and detained him, holding him on the ground until police arrived.
Police say the victim's eye was completely swollen shut.
Upon his arrest, Gilmore reportedly told police that, "He was jumped by a group of Mexicans, who beat him." However, police say, Gilmore had no visible injuries.
Gilmore has been charged with aggravated assault.
