SURPRISE, AZ — A Surprise caregiver is accused of kicking an elderly patient out of his own home and into the freezing cold temperatures.
Surprise police report that on late Monday night Georgina Rosalie Maya, 56, kicked her patient out of his own home when outdoor temperatures were expected to hit freezing that night.
Police responded to the home near El Mirage and Bell roads about 10:30 p.m. and found the 84-year-old dementia patient in his car with a blanket over him. He reportedly told police that he was going to spend the night in his car. He allegedly said he was assaulted and thrown out of his home by his caregiver.
Court records show that the expected outside temperature that night was expected to drop to 32 degrees.
The victim accused Maya of throwing wine at him and trying to hit him with a wine bottle. Inside the home, police reportedly found the wine on the door and floor of the home, along with several wine bottles on the table.
Police say it appeared that Maya had been drinking.
Maya was arrested for assault and vulnerable adult abuse.
