TEMPE, AZ — A victim was able to disarm a teenager whose gun misfired during an attempted robbery at a QuikTrip in Tempe, according to court documents.

Tempe police report that on Monday just before midnight, a 16-year-old boy was on QT property located near Priest Drive and Southern Avenue, and proceeded to point a 9mm handgun at the chest of a person.

Court records show that the teen told the victim to "give me the keys" as he racked the slide of his gun and pulled the trigger. Police say the gun misfired, causing the suspect and victim to fight over the weapon.

The victim managed to disarm the teen and hold him until police arrived.

Upon arresting the teen, police say they discovered that he also had a probation violation warrant for his arrest.

He has been charged in juvenile court with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault.
