A Phoenix man has been arrested after he allegedly used a knife to fight off a man and tried to steal an SUV with two children inside.

On April 5, the victim was in the parking lot of the Bank of America near 7th Street and Bell Road when 34-year-old Robert Allen Page broke out the driver's side window and took control of the car, according to court documents.

During a jail house interview Wednesday, Page said he did not realize any children were inside the vehicle.

He admitted to breaking out the driver's side window in order to steal the car; he targeted the vehicle, he said, because it was running.

Page said he believed he was in danger because the Hell's Angels were chasing him.

The suspect was backing up when the father tried to stop him from driving away with his two children, a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old, according to court documents.

Page reportedly tried to stab the father with a knife, as he was driving the car.

Police arrived and Page jumped out of the car dropping the knife.

Officers say Page was screaming that, "the Hell's Angels were coming to kill him."

Authorities transported Page to the hospital for evaluation, but had a hard time getting him out of the patrol car, as Page bit, spit on and fought the officers.

Page is facing multiple charges including kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and criminal damage.
