PHOENIX — Another street racer has been caught by the police in southwest Phoenix.

Phoenix police report that on January 26 around 11:30 p.m., officers with the street racer enforcement program were in the area of 67th and Southern avenues after following a group of suspected street racers.

Once there, they reportedly saw a car driven by Edgar Sanchez, 20, doing donuts in the intersection while being cheered on and recorded by other drivers and pedestrians.

When the police arrived, Sanchez reportedly drove directly at a patrol car, went around it and sped away at a high rate of speed. Police say Sanchez turned off his headlights as he passed.

A police helicopter tracked Sanchez to a neighborhood about a mile away, where police later captured him.

Upon his arrest, Sanchez allegedly admitted to his actions, even covering his license plate with paper to avoid identification when onlookers posted their recordings of his donuts.

He has been charged with street racing and unlawful flight from law enforcement.
