A man confined to a wheelchair was knocked out of his wheelchair and had his ear bitten off, police say.

Phoenix Police report that on June 28, Charles Edward Lee Jr., 28, attacked a wheelchair-bound man near 24th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Police say Lee knocked the victim out of his wheelchair and then bit off the corner of his ear. The victim will require surgery and may be permanently disfigured, according to police.

When police first arrived, Lee reportedly made a statement saying he bit off the victim's ear, but later denied knowing anything about the incident.

Police say a records check showed Lee had a prior armed robbery conviction and a current arrest warrant.

He has been charged with aggravated assault.
