Phoenix police say an 11-month-old was burned by a man smoking heroin in a car.
According to the report, a man parked his car near 99th Avenue and Indian School Road on October 19 to smoke heroin while both the child and her mother were in the car.
The man allegedly burned the young girl on her arms and legs with a lighter after moving to the back seat of the car, police say.
Police have identified the man as 20-year-old Martin David Burrola.
According to police, after leaving the area the couple dropped the child off with her grandfather before seeking the child’s biological father to get more money for drugs.
The girl’s grandfather noticed four burn marks, one on her leg above the knee, and three more on her arms.
Police arrested Burrola on October 28.
He admitted to burning the child, but claimed it was unintentional.
Burrola has been charged with child abuse.
