GILBERT, AZ — A man impersonating a police officer pulled over a citizen in Gilbert, according to court records.

Gilbert police report that on December 6, a citizen called 911 saying he was being pulled over near the US 60 and Gilbert Road by a personal car with red and blue flashing lights.

The car, driven by Michael Albao Perez, 47, left the area and returned home, followed by the victim and police.

Perez was seen by police wearing a shirt with the word "police" on the back. They also reportedly found a handgun in the car.

Police say Perez has several prior arrests and convictions, including shooting a victim at his home.

It's unclear if Perez had attempted to pull over any other citizens in the past or if this was the only victim.

He has been charged with impersonating a peace officer.
