A Phoenix father has been arrested after assaulting his sons who are both under 10 years old, holding a knife to the throat of one of them.

Phoenix police report that on April 14 Quran Chaney Cooper,32, picked his son up from school and told him he was "tired of him being bad.” He allegedly punched him in the legs several times and choked him with both hands.

Police say Cooper and his wife are estranged and he was watching his three children while their mother attended medical appointments.

Police say that when the mother arrived, Cooper left the home but later returned intoxicated, saying he was just there to pick up a few things and then leave. Instead, he reportedly held a knife to the throat of one son, and the boy's mother pushed him back. He then slapped the boy causing him to fall to the floor and punched his younger brother.

Police arrested Cooper on May 17 at his home near 23rd Avenue and Indian School Road. He reportedly told police that had been drinking that day and did not recall everything. He did admit to hitting his son on the legs but denied the other allegations.

Cooper was arrested for child abuse and aggravated assault.
