MESA, AZ — A former Paradise Valley Unified School District employee has been sentenced after pleading guilty to luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

Court records show that last month, Mico Alejandro Cano, 31, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months in jail and lifetime probation.

Cano was arrested on February 6, 2019, by Mesa police.

"We can confirm, Mr. Mico Cano was arrested by our agency on February 2 for luring and attempted sexual contact with a minor," Mesa police said in a statement.

Upon his arrest, police informed officials at the school district that they had taken Cano into custody for luring and attempted sexual contact with a minor.

A letter, released by the district later on that day by PVUSD Superintendent James Lee, said Cano worked as a Community Education employee at Copper Canyon Elementary School. He was a childcare worker in the before- and after-school program, according to the letter.

Lee emphasized that Cano harmed no students in the Paradise Valley community.
