TEMPE, AZ — A leasing agent disarmed a trespasser who threatened her with a knife.

Tempe police report that on February 22, a leasing agent was checking on a property near Priest and University drives when she located a trespasser.

The man, later identified as William Jay Arbaugh, 37, was in a backyard shed and walking toward the gate when he the agent announced she was calling the police. Arbaugh allegedly pulled out an "8-inch serrated saw blade" from a sheath on his waist.

The woman was standing next to Arbaugh and struck him in the abdomen with her elbow, causing him to drop the blade.

Arbaugh then reportedly fled on a bicycle. Police soon located and arrested Arbaugh. Police say they found him in possession of drug paraphernalia and syringes.

Court records show that he has six outstanding felony warrants in Maricopa County.

He is being held without bond and has been charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing, and drug crimes.
