MESA, AZ — A DUI suspect has been arrested after allegedly causing a deadly fiery crash Monday morning in Mesa.
The wreck happened before 6 a.m. around Val Vista Drive and Brown Road.
Police say a car driven by 56-year-old Timothy Kent Vaughan rear ended another car, causing a large fire.
An off-duty officer reportedly came upon the crash and tried to help but was unable to get the driver out because the car was fully engulfed in flames.
57-year-old Silvia Arriolla was inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two others were injured but not severely.
Vaughan allegedly admitted to police that he had three drinks the day before.
Police say his breathalyzer test recorded a .157 BAC.
Vaughan was arrested for manslaughter and given a $100,000 bond.
His next court date is February 4.
