GLENDALE, AZ — Police say a man is dead after being shot and crashing into a building Friday.

Officers responded to the area of 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road for a report of unknown trouble. They arrived to find a man who had crashed into a building.

Police say the victim was shot less than a block away and was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Nearby schools were momentarily placed on lockdown because of the incident, according to a police spokesperson.

Police said the suspected shooter, 20-year-old Vincent Nathaniel Zdunxzyk, is in custody.

Witnesses told police that there was an altercation outside the vehicle right before the shooting took place.

Zdunxzyk, after being convinced by his mother to turn himself in, allegedly approached police saying he was the one they were looking for in reference to the shooting.

He is being held on a $500,000 cash bond for second-degree murder.

The victim's identity has not been released by police.
