TONOPAH — A 17-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly shooting at Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies (MCSO) and troopers from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Tonopah on September 23, according to court documents.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23, deputies were sent to a home near 348th Avenue and Buckeye Road for a domestic violence call.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they allegedly attempted to get 17-year-old Thomas Toupin-Vasquez to exit the home, according to officials.
Instead, deputies allege the teen shot at them with a rifle from inside the home, striking a patrol vehicle several times. Deputies exchanged gunfire, and Toupin-Vasquez retreated, barricading himself further inside the home, court documents show.
After an hours-long standoff, MCSO officials said Toupin-Vasquez surrendered to the MCSO SWAT team.
In a tweet, an MCSO spokesperson said no deputies were injured.

Toupin-Vasquez has been charged with eight counts of aggravated assault and weapons misconduct in the Maricopa County Juvenile Court.
"The threat to law enforcement continues to challenge our deputies and threaten their safety," Sheriff Paul Penzone said. "Today's incident is another example of the dangers they face every day."
