PHOENIX — A Scottsdale gym owner who was arrested last November is now facing additional charges after he reportedly placed a hidden camera in his ex-girlfriend's bathroom.
On November 8, ABC15 first reported that Phoenix police arrested 43-year-old Shawn Leroy Dowdy at his home near 36th Street and Thunderbird Road, on November 2.
Police say Dowdy's ex-girlfriend was in her bathroom, drying her hair when she noticed something in an air vent. She contacted police after removing a camera and battery pack.
Investigators examined the SD card in the camera and found "numerous video files," each about one-minute long. They say the camera was motion activated.
One of the first videos allegedly captured images of Dowdy wearing a hat with the logo of the Scottsdale gym that he owns.
Police seized a laptop computer from Dowdy’s business.
When they examined it, they allegedly found an additional 89 videos of the victim in various stages of undress, according to court documents.
Police now also believe that Dowdy physically moved the camera 11 times in the victim’s home.
Dowdy allegedly placed the camera in an air vent, behind the toilet, and also hid it in a plant on the bathroom counter.
The victim reportedly told police that their relationship ended about ten years ago.
Dowdy is now being charged with 13 counts of voyeurism and 11 counts of burglary.
