Sexually transmitted diseases reported in Arizona for the first several months of 2018 are up 19 percent over 2017, and state health officials say better awareness and reporting may be the reasons.
ABC15 has obtained data covering the counts of sexually transmitted disease and infection cases in 2017 in zip codes across the county.
Take a look at the map below to see how many cases of HIV, chlamydia, and syphilis were discovered in each zip code, according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
The zip code with the highest total count of STDs/STIs is 85281, with a total of 1,035 cases. The 85281 zip code, which also topped the 2016 case list, is located in the northern Tempe area and includes the Tempe ASU campus.
An official at the Maricopa County Department of Public Health warns that these counts vary due to the differences in STD/STI testing between zip codes, and do not definitively state a full count or ranking of actual cases in each location.
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health offers more information about these STDs/STIs, as well as clinic testing and free testing events listed on their website.
Data with fewer than five incidents were excluded from the list to protect the privacy of those individuals. Locations on the map are approximate to the related zip code and do not signify a specific address.
