Arizona is not as conservative as you might think.
A Feb. 3 Gallup poll classifies the Grand Canyon State as "competitive," as opposed to leaning either Republican or Democratic.
Gallup randomly sampled 177,991 adults in all 50 states and the District of Columbia from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2015 for the poll.
According to the 4,273 people surveyed in Arizona, 40 percent lean Democratic while 41.4 percent lean Republican. However, when it comes to ideology, 35 percent said they were conservative, 37.4 percent said they were moderate and 22.2 percent said they were liberal.
Those surveyed who identified as independent were then asked whether they leaned Democratic or Republican.
Overall, 20 states are Republican, 16 states are competitive and 14 states are Democratic.
