A record $64 million in unclaimed property was handed out last year by the state. And right now, the state's Department of Revenue is trying to find owners of about $300 million worth of unclaimed funds and belongings.
Typically, the belongings are left in abandoned safety deposit boxes. After a certain period of time, they are auctioned off.
Those funds and any unclaimed money are held and can be claimed for 35 years.
The department wants you to have that money. We do too.
