Before you hire a mover, know this law!

If you haven't noticed, Arizona does not have the best consumer protections.

For the most part, they stink.

There are some bright spots.

And with more people coming to the Valley as the weather cools, some moving here, there's one law you need to remember.

Gunnar wrote us saying a mover "broke my stuff, told me I was going to get the move for a lower price, held my stuff hostage until I paid them."

He probably didn't know about or didn't remember HB2145.

This year, that law made it illegal for moving companies to hold your belongings hostage while there's a money dispute.

Too many times, bad movers would try to get more than the agreed upon amount and use this tactic.

But this law only works, if you know about it.

So now, Gunnar and anyone else in this position can call police while this is happening.

You still have to fight the money situation later in court.

But you keep your belongings.

I want to know if you used the new law.

Did you have a bad move, call police, what happened?
