Scam calls and illegal telemarketing calls are driving Valley residents crazy.
It's the number one complaint to the Let Joe Know team.
We asked you to give us the numbers of some of these callers.
And then we called them back ourselves.
Many of the people were fake "Microsoft" technicians.
They want to get into our computer because of suspected viruses.
We know from experience, once you let them in remotely, they'll show you many supposed viruses.
But they are just normal processes and not viruses at all.
And they try to talk you into security protection for these non-existent issues.
Sometimes, they will hold your computer hostage until you pay them.
No one from Microsoft will call you.
No one from the government will threaten you with arrest by phone.
My advice? If you know for sure the person calling, answer it.
If you don't know, let it go to voicemail.
Anyone important will leave a message.
And this way you avoid all the scams.
