Family struggles to get car back from Mesa auto shop

If you're taking a long trip, you want your car to be able to make it; that's why Ximena Quirarte says her family took their car to Miterock Auto Repair in Mesa.

They say the check engine light came on and there was a small amount of oil seen.

The family tells us they paid the owner $800, but weeks went by and they couldn't get the car back.

Finally, after two months, they say they got the car and the repairs were not done.

They say the check engine light was back on, there were screws removed and a part that wasn't installed.

I went to the Mesa location and found Oscar.

I'm not sure he was the owner, but he was the boss.

Oscar says he worked 30 hours on the car and it was repaired.

He says the family was happy when they picked it up.

But Oscar said he didn't want to talk to me, wanted me to leave, and would give me no more information.

We can all learn from part of this story.

The family did not have a signed invoice and no receipt for the money they paid.

Make sure you get an estimate of costs, what should be done and that you have to okay any extra work.
