Mesa crematory accused of mishandling bodies

There are new allegations about a Mesa crematory disrespecting bodies and violating procedures.

On Tuesday, the Arizona Funeral Board heard from a funeral home owner and its own investigators.

The allegations are that Saguaro Valley Cremation Services stacked bodies in boxes on top of each other without space between them.

And the board says that would be a violation.

Owner Jonathan Woods says it's a misrepresentation and that the improper stacking is not happening at his facility.

Woods renamed the crematory after taking it over from then owner Frank Lambert.

In 2011, Lambert lost his crematory and cremationist licenses after an ABC15 investigation.

At that time, we found bodies being stored outside in a van for 19 hours.

Lambert said there was no room in the refrigerated area where bodies should be stored.

The Funeral Board says Lambert still works at the facility as a manager.

The board will hold a formal hearing on the allegations at its May meeting.
