Do you have a home warranty? Are you considering buying one?
Warranties can offer peace of mind because they cover your appliances and other parts of your house if there's a problem.
But many consumer advocates say they aren't worth the money. They point to too many exclusions, like parts that aren't covered.
And they say that too many times, sub-par contractors are hired to do the repair work.
Before you buy, make sure to do an internet search for complaints. Also, look for any lawsuits or actions taken by state agencies or individuals, and check out the contracts to see the exclusions and what you'll really get for your money.
If you own a home warranty and aren't happy, you can file a complaint with the Arizona Department of Insurance.
Click hereto check if your warranty company is listed. Search the "extended" warranty section. Home warranty companies must be registered with them to do business in the state.
And you can get a pro-rated refund at any time if you're unhappy. Put your request in writing and file a complaint if it's not given in a timely manner.
