YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ — A man who went missing Sunday after his car was swept into a flooded wash has been found dead, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office found 63-year-old Benny Sutton Jr. dead Friday morning.

"The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office extends its condolences to Mr. Sutton's family, friends, and coworkers as they navigate this unimaginable loss," the sheriff's office said.

"I would like to also express our gratitude to the many dedicated Yavapai Search and Rescue volunteers and others who spent days tirelessly searching for him. We are grateful to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Peoria P.D. air support and other partner agencies for their vital assistance throughout this operation," Sheriff David Rhodes said.

Sutton Jr., a Castle Hot Springs employee, left home for work on November 1, but never arrived, officials say.

Later, authorities discovered his unoccupied car after it had been caught in a wash.

At the peak of the flood, the waterway was 200 feet wide and reached up to six to eight feet deep.
