PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a deadly crash involving a bicycle.

Investigators say just before 11 p.m. Wednesday a bicyclist was hit by the driver of a Toyota Corolla.

It happened on Carol Avenue, near 7th Street and Hatcher Road, according to Phoenix PD.

A 61-year-old man, identified by police as Michael Anthony Groth, was riding his bicycle westbound on Carol Avenue and failed to yield to northbound traffic when he was hit by the car, said detectives.

He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Corolla was being driven by a 26-year-old woman. She remained at the scene and was checked out for possible impairment. Phoenix PD says charges are pending.

Neither the driver nor her 25-year-old passenger were hurt during the crash.
