As part of a social media campaign in response to an ABC15 investigation, actor and activist Mark Ruffalo specifically called on Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel to drop the charges against protesters and fire the prosecutors behind the cases.

A video of Ruffalo’s demand was posted on Twitter by prominent activist Bruce Franks Jr., who is also facing charges from a protest in August.

In the video, the actor said, “Hey, Mark Ruffalo here. Allister Adel, we’re demanding you drop all the charges for the protest in Phoenix last year and fire every prosecutor involved in these false charges.”

Ruffalo, well-known for major roles like the Hulk, has joined dozens of others in the social media campaign to blitz the county attorney and her office. Other major voices are also calling out Adel, including several state lawmakers and Phoenix City Councilman Carlos Garcia.

The campaign was organized by Mass Liberation AZ.

The community group has been especially vocal about ABC15’s “Politically Charged” investigation, which has exposed widespread misconduct and bias in protest arrests and prosecutions.

Following ABC15's reports, Adel has dismissed charges against a group of protesters charged as a criminal street gang in one case. But dozens of others still face different cases brought by officers and prosecutors, who are now under a pair of outside investigations.
