Saguaros are protected under the Native Plant Protection Act and it is illegal to damage them.
"It could be (a felony) depending on the value and condition of the cacti," Oro Valley police spokesman Carmen Trevizo said. "In this case, these are very large saguaros in good condition, so their value may rise to the level of felony criminal damage."
Police say those with information to call 229-4900 and mention case number V18070635.
