LOS INDIOS, TX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios, Texas were at the right place at the right time when they helped deliver a baby.
According to CBP, around 7 a.m. Saturday morning, Mexican Immigration officers transported a 16-year-old U.S. citizen who was in labor near the Free Trade International Bridge. The 16-year-old was already in full labor when she was taken to CBP officers at the midpoint of the bridge.
The expecting mother was placed into a CBP vehicle where she quickly gave birth, according to a press release from CBP.
“Our officers are ready for a variety of situations, even childbirth, and they utilized all of their training and experience to calm the mother and assist with her delivery, which happened almost immediately after crossing back into the United States,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.
Mother and baby were taken to the hospital and are both doing well, according to CBP.
