It was harder than ever to make Forbes' list of the wealthiest 400 people this year, but seven Arizona billionaires still made the cut.
Forbes said that 145 other U.S. billionaires didn’t make the cut this year.
The bar to make it on the list was set at a record high, according to the magazine, at $1.7 billion, up from $150 million last year.
At the top of the 2015 list was Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose net worth sits at $76 billion. Next was Warren Buffett, with $62 billion.
At the top of Arizona’s list, though, was Discount Tire founder Bruce Halle. His net worth sits at $5.9 billion and he is number 76 on Forbes' list. Discount Tire has more than 900 stores in 28 states, according to Forbes.
At number 119 on the list is Mark Shoen. He’s the largest individual shareholder for his family’s company, U-Haul, and his net worth is $4.7 billion.
John Kapoor comes in at 194th, with a $2.6 billion net worth. Kapoor is the chairman of drug companies Akorn and Insys Therpeutics, but he also owns the Bombay Spice restaurants in Arizona, as well as Marigold Maison in Phoenix and Roka Akor in Scottsdale, according to Forbes.
Herbert Louis is number 246 on the list. An heir to the SC Johnson fortune, his net worth is $2.8 billion. He’s also an orthopedic surgeon in the Valley, Forbes said.
Paradise Valley resident Bennett Dorrance comes in at number 256 on the list, with a net worth of $2.6 billion. He’s the grandson of the founder of Campbell Soup and holds a stake in the company. He also runs a real estate development firm, DMB Associates, in Arizona.
GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons is 327th on the list with a net worth of $2.1 billion. He doesn’t run the company anymore, but he’s still the company’s largest individual shareholder and owns malls and motorcycle dealerships in the Valley, as well as the Scottsdale National Golf Club.
The last Arizonan on the list is Arturo Moreno at number 375. He has a net worth of $1.77 billion. Moreno is the owner of the Los Angeles Angels major league baseball team and made much of his fortune as the owner of a billboard company, Outdoor Systems, according to Forbes.
