MILWAUKEE — Missing 2-year-old girl Noelani Robinson has been found dead, a family member tells WTMJ.
Noelani had been missing since Monday, when police say her father, Dariaz Higgins, shot and killed Noelani's mother, Sierra Robinson, before going on the run with Noelani. Higgins was taken into custody earlier this week, but refused to tell police where Noelani was located, Milwaukee Police Department Chief Alfonso Morales said at a news conference Friday.
Higgins has been arrested and charged for the murder of Noelani's mother.
The Steele County Sheriff's Office in Minnesota reported early Saturday morning that a body had been found in the ditch there. Police confirmed Saturday that the body was 2-year-old Noelani, who had been wrapped in a blanket and left in the ditch.
Wisconsin Mayor Tom Barrett released this statement in response to the tragedy: “I am deeply saddened by the news that the body of 2-year-old Noelani Robinson has been found. She was a beautiful toddler and her life was cut short as a result of human trafficking. Her unfortunate death is a reminder of the dangers of human trafficking.”
