The new Loop 202 freeway has been open for less than two months and yet ABC15 viewers are already noticing some issues with the South Mountain Freeway calling the quickly deteriorating pavement, "alarming."
Peter reached out to Operation Safe Roads by email writing: "Are you able to reach out to ADOT and find out why parts of the new highway blacktop surface appear to be crumbling?"
ABC15 hit the roads to see the problems and contacted ADOT for answers. In a statement, the department says an exact reason hasn't been determined, "as to why this is happening."
But ADOT will be holding the freeway developer responsible for the repairs, not taxpayers.
Those repairs will start in the spring as traffic engineers monitor the conditions.
